I was thinking "Hubert Bland, Hubert Bland, I'm sure I know the name, but who was he?" And then you mentioned E. Nesbit, and I thought "Oh, that creep..." Possibly I am biased in my opinion about him by having read A.S. Byatt's novel The Children's Book, which is based on that family and its circle.
