Sydney siege
Dec. 16th, 2014 01:09 amI don't have time for a long entry - but I wanted to get it on record that the man holding the hostages is NOT a member in good standing of the Sydney Islamic community. Not in any sense. I see he has been called (in passing - the Australian media know the longer story) a Muslim cleric - but it's a self-bestowed title. He's a one-off, not part of any organisation, religious or political.
editing to add:yes, I know! absurdly overweening to think that it makes any difference worth mentioning to have it "on record" on my DW/LJ journal! :D But I'd just seen a post (NOT from Australia) saying about awful terrorism etc, and yes, terrorism is, but this is something different from that.
