Three fairly cheerful things

The bananas which i had been going to make a banana cake out of were declared dead by Another.  :(  But!  I still had one and half bananas which I had frozen a while back, when they also were getting to the Needing To Be Used State.  Could I make up for there being too few bananas, by throwing in some dates?... The suspense!!  Life on the edge!!  :)   (Spoiler:  I test-drove a batch in paper cupcake cases, and they worked fine, so I'll cook up all the rest early tomorrow morning, and they can be eaten up by workmates tomorrow.  A happy ending.)

And another happy ending -- or things going better anyway, for this former child-soldier.  (Rather depressing bit: he said one of the lowest moments of his life was in my home-country, after being accepted as a refugee.)

And not exactly news (listed in 2012), but still good:  a frog that sings like a bird, (truly, like a little bird -- you can download a recording :)  ).
