So, over three days I'm brushing up on basic first-aid - which has been grim but fic-thought-provoking, in terms of how things like crush injuries or hypothermia play out.
Also mildly interesting legally.  It seems that having achieved a certain level of certification in first aid, the certified person is legally obliged to help (I nearly said "render assistance"!  This legalesque language has a terrible way of seeping into the brain.)   We were also told that no good-Samaritan-style first-aider "has yet been sued successfully" in Australia for a blunder in their treatment - which strongly suggests that they have been sued, but not "successfully".
One person said that in... Sweden? A qualification in first aid is a pre-requisite for getting a driver's licence, which seems like a sane idea.  Here drivers of vehicles in accidents have to stay on the scene, and help if they can, but there's no mandatory first aid training.
